There are a number of efforts to bring education to the internet age, such as Udacity, EdX and Coursera. SlideWiki on the other hand is different in many ways and will have a unique position:
Focus on crowd-sourcing: this will allow SlideWiki to cover a dramatically wider range of topics and keep content more recent
Extreme multi-linguality: SlideWiki will provide content in dozens if not hundred of languages including languages important for emerging and developing countries
Remove borders between instructors and learners: learners can easily contribute content (new self-assessment questions, translations in their language)
In essence, platforms like Udacity, EdX and Coursera rather compare with publishers who publish one-to-many content digitally, while SlideWiki follows the Wikipedia style many-to-many cooperation paradigm.
