Extensions: A Smarter Electricity Grid

  • Managing increasingly dispersed energy resources is crucial to ensure efficient electricity consumption, for example
    • Wind farms
    • Solar panels
  • Grid operators cannot be sure at any given time:
    • Which electricity generators are connected
    • If they are operational or not
    • How much power they are outputting
  • Semantic technologies can be used to enable “self-describing networks”
    • Each member of the network autonomously publishes semantic data about itself
    • Enables more efficient automated grid management technologies
  • Ultimately semantic technologies can provide a “Smart Electricity Grid”
