Knowledge-based systems (KBS)

  • KBS are realized based on a knowledge base (KB).

  • KB contains a model represented in a (logical) formalism which can be interpreted by an interpreter (inference engine) that is able draw conclusions from it.

  • KBs typically capture knowledge of a domain.

  • Methodologies for the development of KBS: e.g. CommonKADS

  • Examples: CYC

One of the first systems that aimed to capture common knowledge in a knowledge base
