Decision Trees

  • Many inductive knowledge acquisition algorithms generate („induce“) classifiers in form of decision trees.

  • A decision tree is a simple recursive structure for expressing a sequential classification process.
    • Leaf nodes denote classes
    • Intermediate nodes represent tests

  • Decision trees classify instances by sorting them down the tree from the root to some leaf node which provides the classification of the instance.
